Steuben County Fair Talent Contest
Rules and Regulations
Time limit for
each act must not exceed five minutes. Any act
running over this will be disqualified.
Acts may be
individual, duet or group.
Age limits are: Maxi
Division – 13 years of age and over. Mini
Division – 12 years of age and under.
The 50% rule will be
strictly adhered to concerning groups. In a duo; if one
contestant is 12 and under and other is 13 and over, then
they will compete in the Maxi Division.
No one over the age
of 14 may perform or be part of a Mini Division Group,
including accompanists.
NO acts using batons,
machetes, knives, fire or any other safety hazard will
be accepted.
Contestants must be
strictly amateur. Performers or groups holding union
cards are not eligible.
There is no
residency requirement.
A contestant can
perform a maximum of three times: One (1) solo
and as a member of only Two (2) other groups or
Three (3) groups with No solo.
NO rock bands may
compete at State level.
Contestants must
provide their own music in the form of a cassette
tape or CD. Singing acts must use a CD or cassette with
music only, NO vocals. Keyboards are not
provided but can be used. Sound equipment will be
available.
Teachers are not
permitted to compete in their professional talent, e.g.,
a dance teacher can not compete as a dancer. An unpaid
student teacher, 18 and under, is eligible to compete.
Age eligibility is on or before opening day of the fair.
There is no entry
fee required. However, an admission ticket to the
fairgrounds must be purchased.
The talent contest
will be held on Thursday, August 20th at 2:00
p.m. on the stage in front of the grandstand.

Division will be awarded as follows:
1st place $
250.00 savings bond & trophy
2nd place $
150.00 savings bond & trophy
3rd place $
100.00 savings bond & trophy
4th place

All participants will
receive ribbons
The judges’ decisions
are final. Judges will score based on:
Technique/Natural
Ability
1-30 points
Execution/Choreography, Quality of performance.
1-30 points
Stage Presence
and
Showmanship 1-20
points
The first twenty-five
(25) winning contestants from the Mini and Maxi
contests are eligible to compete in the Talent Hunt at
the New York State Fair. Once a contestant has qualified
for the Talent Hunt at the New York State Fair; they can
not qualify at another County Fair. Expenses for the
State Fair are the responsibility of the individuals.
Judges’ scores will
be mailed after the fair is over to the entrants
who supply us with a self-addressed - stamped
envelope prior to the end of the fair. Please
specify the name of your act, your phone number and
whether you participated in the Maxi or Min Division.
Entries are accepted
through July 31st at 5:00 p.m. early
registration is advised.
